Today we are at the start of a new moon (Thursday 27th) and it’s a time of the month that reminds us to be gentle with ourselves and prioritize rest. With busy lives and a thousand things always pulling at your attention, rest is almost always at the bottom of the list. I find that adding tiny moments of calm, relaxing or slowing down can really add up so instead of getting stressed about finding time to rest, consider actions like 3 deep breaths, pressing your feet into the ground, gazing at a picture of loved ones, looking up at the sky, closing your eyes for 60 seconds…tiny moments that add up to feeling better during your day.
To that end, I wanted to offer something that I find brings some soothing to my heart and gives me a moment of respite. This poem has a way of grounding me and I hope it gives you a wee break in your day. The Peace of Wild Things
By Wendell Berry
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
Sending you rest, hugs and the peace of wild things.
