Creating the world we want

“Don’t underestimate the power of thinking about someone kindly, singing a song, putting flowers in the corner as an offering of beauty to life; of creating a beautiful dinner table, treating your body kindly; of making art, playing, or creating ritual and ceremony. All of these actions create our world.” ~ Chameli Gad

Are you looking for the perfect gift? Do you worry that what you are doing or giving isn’t enough or won’t make a difference? Have you become anxious about world events and how they are impacting your community?

You are not alone.

Can you pause right now and take a deep breath into your belly? Try to lengthen your exhale.

Do this action two more times….

Now, I want to offer a suggestion. Instead of worrying, striving or feeling anxious, can you take a small, joyful action?

I know you‘ve heard this before and I am going to say it again just as a reminder – ‘small things add up to making a big difference’.

Even more important, I think - ‘doing small things for yourself add up to making a big difference’. At this time of year, whether you celebrate Christmas or not, the western world creates a marketing madness that is hard to avoid. The energy of bigger, better, outdoing and overspending seeps into your energy field like water into a crack in the floor and before you know it, you find yourself buying, giving and volunteering beyond your capacity or desire.

It’s easy to get caught up in this energy because it’s relentless so I am hoping that this note in your email box can give you a break from this madness and bring you back to yourself and your innate goodness and to small acts of beauty and kindness.

Because if everyone practiced thinking kindly about others, singing a song, making art, creating a ritual or any of the millions of other small acts of presence and beauty, we would indeed create the most gorgeous and joyful world, ever. What small actions will you take over these next few weeks?
